Does the UK still have a lot of family owned stores and franchises? how compared to the USA ?

I don't notice much family owned stores in England, if you go out to rural areas you might get some family owned businesses, in suburban London though it seems to be all High Street stores! Most convenience stores and corner shops are family run (and owned?) by Indians and Pakistani's!
